Occasionally I like to get crazy with my beers. A while back ago I got a hold of the Luchadore En Fuego, a bold and spicy brew set of by just the right amount of sweetness that I could have gone for two bottles. My local beer expert noting that I like to try spicy beers told me to give the Rosabi a try. Never backing down from an interesting sounding beer I gladly accepted.
Dogfish Head is a well-established brewery based out of Rebohoth Beach, DE. They’ve beeen around since ’95 cranking out quite a reputation for producing not only a large line of IPAs, but also some great ales as well. My personal favorite has got to be the Midas Touch but I would never turndown a 90 Minute IPA.
Like the name implies, the Rosabi is a combination of a Rose IPA, hints of wasabi, and an 8% ABV. The later supposedly adding a hint of bitter heat to the brew staving off the caramel malts that are used. However, I found this to not be the case, at least for my shot tastebuds. Not that you couldn’t detect the wasabi, I was just expecting it to be more apparent to the flavor. This was problem by design so I wouldn’t knock them based on this.
The aroma was fully and fruity pouring very smoothly into my glass. It went down smooth and was enjoyable but I wouldn’t necessarily host a part debuting the as superior to other IPAs. However, it was solid and didn’t disappoint. Seems like Dogfish was playing it safe with the wasabi and that’s okay. Since the availability is limited and its release on 06/2014 you’ll need to actually do some digging to find it. (My store only had 5 bottles). It didn’t leave me breathless but since I was better than an average I found it definitely worth the money and could recommend. You can use the Fish Finder to find the distributor nearest to you.
Pros: Great Aroma and color. Definitely looks classy.
Cons: Above average IPA, wasabi flavor could be slightly more apparent.
Overall Score: 3/5 Samurai
